Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and initiative. On the 24th August 1918 during operations near Grevillers this NCO, finding his platoon held up by machine gun fire made a daring personal reconnaissance in face of this fire as the result of which he was able to outflank the enemy nest of machine guns thus causing their retreat. He showed conspicuous leadership in handling his platoon.'
