Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During an enemy attack he volunteered to assist the medical officer with the wounded. The enemy
bombardment was so intense that the aid post which was in the open had to be moved five times. He continued untiring in his assistance to the medical officer in cheering and alleviating the sufferings of the wounded. When the stream of casualties began to decrease he went forward to the front line, visiting the men, distributing comforts, and cheering them by his presence and fearless conduct.'
