War service: Western Front Embarked Wellington, 26 June 1916; disembarked Fremantle, and admitted to hospital, Blackboy Hill (syphilis); discharged to duty, 14 August 1916. Re-embarked Fremantle, 14 August 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 25 October 1916, and marched into Sling Camp, and reverted to Temporary Sergeant. Proceeded overseas to France, 15 November 1916; joined 4th Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, in the field, 8 December 1916, and posted to B Company, and reverted to the ranks on joining the Bn. Admitted to 46th Casualty Clearing Station, 15 January 1917; transferred to Northumbrian Casualty Clearing Station, 17 January 1917 (scabies); rejoined unit, 28 January 1917. Admitted to 133rd Field Ambulance, 4 September 1917 (scabies); transferred to 50th Casualty Clearing Station, 5 September 1917; rejoined unit, 16 September 1917. Killed in action, 12 October 1917.
