Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duties at Briastre on 12th October, 1918. He showed fine leadership and great gallantry during the attack. He led his platoon to the objective and repelled an attack from the rear, the enemy having worked in
behind him from the flank. He reorganised his platoon, directed the consolidation of his sector, and established communication with the right.'
Source: London Gazette Date: Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near Bancourt on the 30th August 1918. This NCO took command of his platoon when the Commander became a
casualty early in the day, and carried on till the objective was gained, when he superintended the consolidation with great skill and courage. Next day he rallied his men who were falling back from an attack by a hostile, and led them back to their former position. He set a great example of skilful leading and daring.'
