Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On 3rd December 1917 during the attack on the Polderhoek Chateau, Private LANG, a Lewis gunner displayed great gallantry when his section Commander became a casualty, by taking command of
the rest of the team, continuing the advance in the face of heavy machine gun fire. When the attack was definitely checked, he kept his gun in action right in front of the enemy's strong point, thus reducing the enemy?s fire and giving the bombers an opportunity to work round to a flank. Throughout the attack he showed a splendid
example of bravery and coolness, and during consolidation kept his section in a forward position to protect the troops who were digging in.'
