'In "No Man's Land" Armentieres in front of T 87 & T 88. This man acted as a messenger to O.C. attack on the occasion of the raid of the 2nd Wellington Regiment, on the night of the 2nd/3rd July 1916. He went two trips with important messages when telephone lines had all been cut by enemy fire, and displayed pluck and coolness in making his way through a heavily shelled area. He volunteered to take a message to "No Man's Land".'
