While holding advanced posts in front of Passchendaele on 3rd October 1917 he handled his men with great skill. This position was very heavily shelled during the day, but despite numerous casualties, Sergeant Lamb, by his bravery and splendid example, held his men together till his platoon was relieved during the night 3rd/4th. His conduct during the day of 3rd October is worthy of the highest praise.'
