Military Medal 'For gallantry and devotion to duty on October 4th 1917 in attack on Gravenstafel. This NCO repeatedly took his bearer squad through heavy artillery fire to the front line and was instrumental in keeping the Right Regimental Aid post clear besides saving many men lying in shell holes thus saving many lives. By his coolness under trying conditions he was an excellent example to his men and helped greatly in the quickness of evacuating the wounded. He was always done meritorious work.'

For gallantry and great devotion to duty. This NCO was in charge of stretcher bearers attached to the regimental aid post at Coldicames. By his great initiative and to carelessness of his own safety he repeatedly rescued wounded men under the heaviest artillery fire, and especially on April 5th when the enemy attacked heavily and forced the regimental aid post to be moved owing to heavy shelling, he remained at his post and with great gallantry and coolness evacuated all the wounded lying about in spite of the fact that men were being killed all round him and ambulance cars were blown up. He undoubtedly saved many lives and by his coolness and determination was not only a great example to his bearer squads but also of immense help to the Medical Officers in the regimental aid posts in keeping the post clear.'
