Military Medal 'Was one of party laying lines, from Carlton Trench to Flers and later was in charge of intermediate maintenance station near the crest between High and Delville Woods, along which the enemy kept up a steady fire, under which he was continually out repairing lines. To quote one instance only, on the night of 25/26th September, he was out continuously for seven hours in the dark relaying the lines after a length of trench had been smashed in, and repairing breaks as made. He was noted for conspicuous good service in Gallipoli, but has not been previously recommended.'
