Military Medal 'For the conspicuous bravery during the raid by the 4th Battalion, 3rd New Zealand (Rifle) Brigade on the enemy's trenches at Corner Fort, south of Fleurbaix, on the night of 17/18th December 1916. His own and another party were held up by machine-gun fire and the gun could not be silenced by long range bombing. He advanced to close range under heavy fire and successfully silenced the gun by bombing the crew.'
