Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He was in command of his platoon, which was attacked by a large part of the enemy. He displayed great decision and tactical skill. Pushing forward a flank of his platoon he caught the enemy under enfilade fire and broke up the attack with very heavy losses. His cool presence of mind and able leadership were very conspicuous.'
