Mention in Despatches 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On October 14th 1917 during attack on Passchendaele ridge this Warrant Officer hearing that the bearers had suffered heavy losses and remainder were tiring volunteered to take a body of A.S.C. men out as bearers. He himself acting as a bearer and by great devotion to duty and untiring energy was the means of bringing the remainder of the men lying out. He was a tower of strength to his men and showed a magnificent example of courage and duty under the most trying conditions, snipers and artillery fire.'
