Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the operations in the vicinity of Esnes on the 8th October 1918, all the NCOs, of Private Keen's platoon became casualties early in the advance. By force of character he immediately assumed the duties of platoon NCO and when passing through an enemy barrage displayed great coolness and powers of leadership. When the Company later advanced South of Esnes to exploit success, Private Keen by his bold and skilful handling of his Lewis gun team gave protection to the Company's exposed right flank, and drove off a party of the enemy, although at the time he was slightly wounded. Not until the limit of the advance was reached did he go back to the regimental aid post to have his wound dressed.'
