Mention in Despatches 'On October 3rd 1916 at Delville Wood this NCO was in charge of a party of Linesmen maintaining telephonic communication between Brigade Headquarters and Batteries, the men with him were severely wounded; he rescued them under heavy shell fire and alone maintained the communications under similar fire for two days. His coolness and fearlessness under fire has always been a splendid example to the men under him.'
