Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On 1st October 1918 at Gravenstafel all telephone lines had been out by shell fire and it was necessary that an important message should reach Battalion Headquarters without delay. Pte Jones volunteered to convoy the message, although the enemy artillery fire was of the greatest intensity, particularly in the sector through which he had to pass. He accomplished the task, making straight for his destination without thought of personal safety. On the two subsequent days he again undertook the carrying of messages, knowing that the chance of his safely delivering them was small. He has throughout shown a fine sense of duty and an utter contempt for danger.'
