Military Medal 'East of Ypres on the 4th October this man displayed the utmost bravery. When the whole advance of his Company was held up by machine-gun fire, he rushed forward alone under heavy shell fire and killed the whole gun crew and other enemy, in all 12, single handed thus enabling the advance to continue. Throughout the whole advance his reckless courage, determination, and devotion to duty were a magnificent example to others.'
