Distinguished Conduct Medal 'On the 26th August 1918 at Favreuil near Bapaume. Johnson was on duty as linesman, on a wire running to Infantry Battalion. The whole area (11/2 miles) through which this wire ran, was under constant heavy shell fire for more that 8 hours, and during this period, Johnson patrolled the wire unceasingly, thereby maintaining communication throughout operations and facilitating the passage of important information. No other wire held for hours. His work at all times has been of an exceptionally high order, and on this occasion a splendid example to everyone of courage and devotion to duty.'
