Military Medal 'Near Fremicourt, on September 2nd 1918, Gunner Jeune was acting as Telephonist and Linesman for the Forward Observation Officer. Throughout the day they worked incessantly on the wire running back from the observation post, over the crest. This crest was continually under fire from machine-gun and snipers and also Barrage by high explosive. The only possible way of approaching or leaving the observation post, was by crawling over the crest, a distance of 150 yards. In spite of the fire, Gunner Jeune patrolled the wire throughout the day and kept communication to Brigade Headquarters. So badly was the wire cut that 5 times a fresh wire had to be run out. It was owing to the utter disregard of personal safety of Gunner Jeune that the Brigade was able to keep in touch with the situation and assist the Infantry.'
