Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On 3rd December 1917, during the attack on the Polderhoek Chateau, this NCO was in command of a Lewis gun section, and displayed splendid bravery in leading his team against very heavy machine-gun fire: with great coolness he manoeuvred his section into a suitable position, and engaged a hostile machine-gun, which was causing a large number of casualties among our own troops. Before long, however, his section was greatly reduced in numbers and his ammunition ran short. Lance-Corporal Jenkins then moved about, and in spite of great personal risk collected ammunition from men who had become casualties in the advance, and was thus able to keep his gun supplied with ammunition. Later on, whilst repeating this gallant action he was wounded.'
