Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry on the night of the 9th and 10th June, 1915, in the neighbourhood of Gaba Tepe (Dardanelles), in volunteering to demolish a Turkish Blockhouse which was within twelve yards of the enemy?s trench, and which could only be approached over ground swept by rifle and machine gun fire. He exhibited great skill in approaching and demolishing the blockhouse and was exposed to fire for an hour.'
