Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the attack on the enemy front line system of hedge-rows on 31st July, this man was a stretcher bearer and with a coolness beyond comparison and untiring energy and determination he assisted in carrying his wounded comrades back from the front line to the Aid Post; crossing and re-crossing for 20 hours the heavily shelled area. His example was magnificent and by his work many lives were saved.'
