Military Medal 'Operations British Front East and west of Bapaume -25th August-5th September 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the above operations Private Barnett acted as Battalion runner until he was wounded on the 5th September 1918. He carried messages forward frequently under shell and machine gun fire, and by his grit and determination materially assisted Battalion Headquarters to keep touch with outlying Companies. He showed a fine example of cheerfulness and devotion to duty under very tring circumstances.'
