'Action in front of Bapaume on August 29th and 30th 1918. For gallantry and devotion to duty on 29.8.1918. During the assembly for attack the enemy put down a heavy barrage on forward trenches where this soldier was on duty with the Medical Officer. Several casualties took place and the Medical Officer sent Private Ingram with a message to the Advanced Dressing Station for stretchers and bearer squads. The barrage at this time was very heavy but undaunted, Private Ingram carried on, passing through the barrage, and returned with a stretcher squad, bringing them safely through the barrage. He then continued on his work and kept bringing in wounded for twenty-four hours without rest or food. His magnificent example of coolness under heavy fire was an incentive to the other squads and helped greatly in the rescue of many wounded who were lying exposed to the fire of the enemy.'
