Embarked Wellington, 23 September 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 18 November 1916, and marched into Sling Camp, and reverted to Temporary Corporal.

Promoted Corporal, 25 December 1916.

Proceeded overseas to France, 1 February 1917; joined 2nd Bn, OItago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 28 February 1917, and posted to B Company.

Admitted to 9th Australian Field Ambulance, 5 June 1917 (pyrexia, unknown origin), and transferred same day to 10th Australian Field Ambulance; rejoined Bn, 6 June 1917.

Appointed Lance Sergeant, 12 June 1917.

Promoted Sergeant, 11 August 1917.

Killed in action, 12 October 1917.
