Military Medal 'Action in front of Belle Vue Spur, West of Passchendaele, 12th October 1917 and following days. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This man showed the greatest skill and an absolute contempt of danger in keeping his Lewis gun in action during the above attack. He sighted an exceedingly good position for his gun well up under the enemy wire, and although the remainder of his section were casualties he kept his gun in action the whole time, covering the advance of the sections on his flanks.'
