Military Medal 'For great gallantry and devotion to duty. Near Gravenstafel on 4th October, during the attack when the No. 1 of his Lewis gun section had been killed, he went back over a machine-gun swept zone and collected the gun, which he brought forward and by his skill in handling it against a nest of enemy snipers, assisted the advance and saved us many casualties.'
