Mention in Despatches 'This N.C.O. was in charge of a detached post which was attacked on night of the 20th January 1917 by a strong enemy fighting patrol. The enemy patrol was driven back after a sharp encounter. Had it not been for the gallantry of this N.C.O. his position would have been overwhelmed. The enemy did not gain entry to our trenches. Locality - Sector east of Armentieres.' Awarded, and promulgated, 'London Gazette', 1 June 1917. |
Medals |
Military Medal 'For great valour and inspiring leadership. This Section Commander was on the Right of his Company front in its attack on the enemy front line system on 31st July immediately north of La Basse Ville. Very soon after the attack began his Platoon was held up by Machine Gun Post and the situation became grave for the seizure of the Platoon's objective was essential in order that touch with the Company attacking La Basse Ville should be kept. With remarkable elan and in spite of heavy casualties in his section, Bargh led his men and charged the post capturing two Machine Guns.'
