Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near Havrincourt Wood on 12th Sept., 1918. Heavy casualties having occurred, this officer was sent forward to take charge of the company. He showed great initiative and skill in getting his company reorganised and the line established. In spite of heavy fire, he organised bombing parties to work down the saps and push our line forward. He made a particularly fine reconnaissance of his position under heavy fire, and sent a very clear report to battalion headquarters. It was largely due to his personal efforts and initiative that the enemy was prevented from working into our line and cutting off some detached posts.'
