Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Though wounded early in an attack he continued to lead his men forward in the face of heavy machine-gun fire. Although his company suffered many casualties he pushed forward and enveloped the left flank of an enemy stronghold. He was again seriously wounded and unable to advance further, but he established his men into a good position and enabled them to hold all the captured ground.'
