Croix de Guerre (Belgium) 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the operations about Haplincourt on the 2nd September 1918. Lance Corporal Hill's platoon was held up on the left by heavy machine-gun fire. On his own initiative he got his Lewis gun section into action, engaged and routed the enemy, thus allowing the advance to continue. His promptitude saved many casualties.'
