Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He made a reconnaissance of the ground in front of our line and obtained information which was of great value in the attack which followed. During the attack he rushed three enemy machine-gun posts and captured four machine-guns. He set a splendid example of courage and determination.'
