Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the field on the 26th and 27th days of March 1918 north east of Mailly Maillet. Pte Hickey, when the other members of his Lewis gun team were killed and wounded worked his gun the whole period of his company's occupation of the line, and for two days and nights never left his gun. Although badly shaken through his position being blown up he still carried on and when more than half of his gun magazines were blown up obtained the assistance of two other men and collected as much gun gear as possible changed to a new position and remained there until he was relieved.'
