Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On October 8th 1918 in the advance on Masnieres Support Line, two machine-guns had wiped out a section that had rushed to attack them. A Sergeant with L/Corporal Hewitt and another soldier without hesitation decided to engage them and while the Sergeant drew their fire in front, L/Corporal Hewitt with the other man worked round a flank under heavy fire and bombed the crews. They then rushed the post and captured the two machine-guns and 42 prisoners.'
