Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This non-commissioned officer on the 15th September 1916 during the operations before Flers, at a critical time when a party of the enemy in Abbey Road were causing casualties to his platoon, led a bombing party and cleared out the enemy. On the same day and also on the 16th while consolidation work was being done in a strong point north west of Flers and later in Flers trench his coolness and energy under fire were an inspiration to all the men put under hid command.'
