Mention in Despatches 'For gallantry and good service. On the morning of 23rd February 1917 at St Yves, during an enemy raid on trenches which his Company had taken over the previous night during darkness, though unfamiliar with his surroundings, he handled his platoon with skill and judgement. Though buried three times by the trench being blown in by enemy fire he organised his men and was largely instrumental in ejecting the enemy very quickly after they had effectd an entry. His work since his unit came to France has consistently been of a high order.' Awarded, and promulgated, 'London Gzette', 1 June 1917. |
