Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On 29th September 1917 in the attack on Bonavis Ridge a machine gun opened fire 100 yards on his flank. He collected a few men and worked around behind the gun thus silencing it and taking the crew prisoners.'
