Military Medal 'For continuous gallantry throughout the operations from 21st August till 12th September 1918. Lance-Corporal Ball at the beginning of these operations was a member of a Rifle Section, and at Miraumont he showed great dash in the attack. Later at Fremicourt his Platoon Commander and all N.C.O.s being either killed or wounded he took charge and carried on successfully, re-organising the men and consolidating the position. At Havrincourt Wood on 12th September this N.C.O. was in the attacking force and led his Section forward with great skill through the heavy Machine Gun fire to the objective. While arranging the consolidation he was severely wounded but carried on until satisfied that his men were secure before handing over.'
