Military Medal 'Operations: British Front near Ruyaulcourt -4th September 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the above operation Private Harris was one of the Company Stretcher bearers, and in conjunction with his companion bearer carried out his duties in a manner which was worthy of great commendation. Where wounded men were lying in exposed positions he fearlessly went forward under machine-gun fire and dressed their wounds and had them taken to a place of safety. On three occasions he returned to the front line after the Company relief and carried out wounded ? ensuring that no man was left on the field. The work became very arduous and Private Harris was subject to great danger when passing through the area of Ruyaulcourt, which was drenched with gas. His gallantry and devotion to duty were an example to the Company.'
