| Other details | 'Entered this School as a Day Boy in 1904. On leaving he joined the staff of the Loan and Mercantile Co., subsequently going on the land. He went into camp as N.C.O., and was originally attached to the 10th Reinforcements as a Sergeant. After obtaining his commission he was placed in the 13th, and later transferred to the 14th, with whom he finally left in June, 1916. Arriving in France in September, he saw the latter part of the Somme battle before being sent to a machine gun school for training. He rejoined his old company at Fleurbaix, where he was taken ill and died on December 9th, 1916.' (In Memoriam, 1914-1918 [Wanganui Collegiate School]) |
