Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the attack at Belle Vue Ridge on 12th October, 1917, he took urgent messages to detached posts under the heaviest enemy barrage and it was only owing to his great skill and absolute contempt for danger that messages were delivered. He was twice wounded before going to the R.A.P. His cheerfulness was always a bye-word in the Battalion.'
