Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty, at Gravenstafel on 4/10/1919. As a linesman on Battalion Headquarters he established and maintained communications during the operations with the Brigade Forward Signal Headquarters, going out numerous times under very heavy shell fire to repair wires. While in the execution of his Duty, he was completely buried by a shell and had to be dug out by his comrades. Although considerably bruised and shaken he insisted upon going on with his work, and his devotion and courage set a fine example to all. He has done very good work on former occasions.'
