Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the night of the 3rd/4th May at Hebuterne one of our listening posts in a sap was driven in and about ten of the enemy entered it. Corporal Baker, with another man, attacked them with bombs, and scattered the whole party, driving them back past their own block, lower down the sap, and enabling us to re-establish the post. He showed great courage and initiative.'
