Military Medal 'For great gallantry, initiative and devotion to duty. He led the way in an attack on an enemy sap, and getting well in the lead, bombed the enemy out of 3 successive posts which they took up behind bridges leading across the sap. He was engaged by the enemy with bombs and rifle fire but utterly disregarded danger and by his magnificent example greatly encouraged his men.'
