'Operations British front in the vicinity of the Foret de Mormal - 5th November 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the above operations Private Guthrie was a Lewis gunner. The advancing Company, to which he belongs, came on three enemy machine-guns which threatened to hold up the advance. Private Guthrie rushed his gun forward, and bringing fire to bear on the enemy he continued firing until they were silenced. Then he covered the advance of his Company till these guns were rushed and the crews captured. His courageous act was the means of preventing casualties and putting the enemy out of action, also it inspired the men of his Company to go on with great dash and confidence. His coolness and disregard for danger materially assisted in the success of the attack.'
