War service: Western Front Embarked Wellington, 6 May 1916; disembarked Suez, 22 June 1916. Embarked Alexandria, 26 July 1916; disembarked Southampton, England, 7 August 1916, and marched into Sling Camp. Found guilty, 4 October 1916, of when on Active Service being absent from church parade: deprived of 2 days' pay. Proceeded overseas to France, 7 January 1917; joined 4th Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, in the field, 7 February 1917, and posted to A Company. Wounded in action, 7 June 1917 (gun shot wound, shoulder); admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance, 8 June 1917, and transferred same day to 77th Field Ambulance; rejoined unit, 17 June 1917.
