Military Medal 'For most conspicuous gallantry and fearless leadership in face of heavy fire during the attack near Beaumont Hamel at 2pm on 30th March 1918. When his platoon Sergeant and all other Section Commanders had been wounded this NCO took command of his platoon and under heavy machine gun and rifle fire, moved
fearlessly about organising the consolidation of the objective and urging the men to greater efforts. He worked like a Trojan throughout the action and set a
wonderful example of courage and cheerfulness to all his men.'
