Admitted to 24th General Hospital, Etaples, 3 March 1917 (mumps); transferred to Convalescent Depot, Boulogne, 3 June 1917; discharged to Base Depot, Etaples, 4 June 1917. Joined 1st Bn, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, in the field, 19 June 1917. Detached to 3rd Company, NZ Engineers, 21 July 1917; rejoined Bn, 19 August 1917. Killed in action, 12 October 1917.
