War service: Western Front Embarked Wellington, 7 December 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 18 February 1917, and marched into Sling Camp. Passed 1st Class Signalling Course, 13 June 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 23 July 1917; joined 1st Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, in the field, 28 August 1917, and posted to A Company. Transferred to 3rd Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, 2 September 1917; posted to D Company, 4 September 1917. Reported missing, 12 October 1917. Court of Enquiry, 18 April 1918, concluded: 'Killed in action, 12 October 1917.' Adjutant, 3rd Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, stated: 'Rfm Carmody went into action with the Bn at Passchendaele on 12.10.17.
