War service: Western Front Embarked Wellington, 7 December 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 18 February 1917, and marched in to 5th Reserve Bn, Sling Camp. Taken on strength, 3rd Bn, Wellington Infantry Regiment, and posted to 7th Company, 24 April 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 27 May 1917. Wounded in action, 16 June 1917 (gun shot wound, right leg and buttock), and admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, and transferred to 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station; to 14th General Hospital, Wimereux, 16 June 1917; to England, 23 June 1917, and admitted to 2nd NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames. Classified 'Unfit' and placed on NZ Roll, 13 July 1917. Commenced return to Australia from Avonmouth on board HMNZT 'Maheno', 8 August 1917; discharged (no longer physically fit for War Service on account of wounds sustained on Active Service), 16 December 1917.
