War service: Western Front Embarked Wellington, 8 December 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 18 February 1917. Posted to 3rd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, 30 March 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 28 May 1917. Wounded in action, 14 August 1917 (gas attack); admitted to 14th General Hospital, Rouen, 16 August 1917; transferred to England, and admitted to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst, 18 August 1917; transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 5 October 1917; to Convalescent Depot, Codford, 5 November 1917, and granted furlough to 19 November 1917. Marched into 5th Infantry Reserve Bn, Sling Camp, 12 February 1918. Admitted to No 3 NZ General Hospital, Codford, 19 February 1918 (venereal disease sore); discharged to Command Depot, Codford, 14 March 1918.
